Why Are We Doing This?

Because plastic recycling isn't working;
Reuse is the way forward but needs support

Recycling is broken. OECD estimates 9% of plastic worldwide was recycled in 2019 and expects this to rise to only 17% by 2060

We simply can’t recycle ourselves out of the plastics crisis. By far the majority of 'recycled' plastic goes to landfill, incineration or leaks into the terrestrial and marine environments

Reuse is the best option but has been overlooked. REUSE Foundation was established to be a knowledge source about reuse and to fund and promote reuse solutions that can quickly make a large impact on plastic waste

In India we’re funding a pilot that is showing reuse can work in rural villages. Highlighted by India Plastics Pact and other leading organisations, Beat The Sachet shows the potential of low-cost reuse.

An easy way to prevent plastic waste is to refill at home, but few brands make their products available in refill formats. We're building a campaign to encourage brands to make products available in refill formats. Simple!

Reuse is new to many communities. We fund outreach to educate and explain its benefits. In lower income communities we have the chance to introduce reuse before use-and-dispose habits are ingrained.
